Job Purpose/Objectives
- To maintain electrical equipment and appliances safely and efficiently in all field locations, to guarantee continuous oil/gas delivery to customers and safeguard asset integrity.
- To satisfy the technical integrity target of the oil/gas processing facility and ensure that all electrical equipment and appliances are operated within the design limit.
Job & Main Specifications (Education/Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Required Details)
Education
- Higher National Diploma (HND) / City and Guild Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited higher institution.
Experience
- A minimum of seven (7) years post-industrial attachment experience in electrical maintenance in Oil, Gas, or Petrochemical industry, two (2) years of which should have been as a Senior Electrical Technician.
Skills & Attributes
- Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of electrical system equipment and components.
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials common to the electrical trade.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Good time management and communication skills.
- Must be conversant with PTW and Lock-Out-Tag-Out (“LOTO”) system.
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
- Knowledge of electrical applications for high and low voltage electric systems.
- Conversant with workorder system processes.
- Ability to remain calm under duress and in emergency situations.
- Good leadership and mentoring skills.
- Complete understanding of all documentations within oil/gas production and processing facility such as.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections on the plant to ensure that all electrical equipment and appliances are in good working conditions and rectify any defects.
- Develop and maintain databases for all electrical related safety critical equipment in the process plant and ensure that periodic maintenance is carried out as at when due in accordance with statutory requirement.
- Troubleshoot plant and facilities electrical problems to determine root cause and recommend options for eliminating such problems through appropriate channels.
- Test all relevant electrical and electronic equipment online or during shutdown to ensure stable plant and smooth plant operation.
- Assign maintenance work to junior technicians and other personnel based on competence level and task complexity.
- Upgrade current and old systems according to new design to improve production and plant stability.
- Maintain all electrical equipment and appliance according to schedule to prevent unnecessary plant shutdown and production losses.
- Ensure reduction in maintenance costs while ensuring that the company quality standards are not compromised.
- Work with controls Engineers / Senior Instrument Technician and third-party contractors on plant modification and upgrade of electrical systems by ensuring that work is done in line with approved scope of work and industry best practices with minimize plant downtime.
- Provide technical input on electrical systems to the Engineering team from conceptual engineering through detailed design to construction, installation, and commissioning phase.
- Ensure that facility equipment integrity is maintained and electrical systems are tested regularly.
- Assist in establishing and driving reliability engineering principles and best practices across field locations.
- Ensure company policy on safe work practices is enforced in all locations for the safety of personnel and equipment.
- Assists in the development, mentoring and coaching of junior technicians within their craft as directed by supervisor.
- Investigate electrical and electronic equipment trips and failures to ensure maximum plant availability.
- Attend and participate in daily maintenance planning and review meetings with maintenance personnel, to discuss the preceding 24-hours’ activities and plan the coming day’s activities.
- Carry out upgrade and maintenance of critical electrical equipment devices to prevent unnecessary plant downtime.
- Carry out interventions and unplanned maintenance as required, within scope of responsibilities and competence level.
- Participate in HSE and technical audits, design review, HAZOP, FAT, and third-party inspections.
- Execute maintenance work in accordance with maintenance plans and Permit to Work (“PTW”) considerations including Lock-Out-Tag-Out (“LOTO”) procedures.
- Install, repair, and maintain motors, transformers, VFD, generators, lights, appliances, circuits, panels, wiring and other electrical system equipment and components in compliance with electrical codes, standards and regulations.
- Assist in the development, mentoring and coaching of junior technicians within their craft as directed by Supervisor.
- Use manufacturers’ manuals to determine installation, maintenance, and repair procedures in association with established maintenance procedures.
- Carry out routine checks on equipment for abnormalities to arrange for servicing and repair.
- Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings with facility maintenance personnel.
- Read required plans, engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment before and during maintenance in line with established standards of hygiene and housekeeping.
- Maintain full awareness of the plant emergency response procedures to ensure the appropriate responsibilities are carried out, in the event of an emergency.
- Comply with all HSE procedures and regulations, including the use of protective clothing and equipment, and ensure that personnel working in the area comply with safety procedures.
- Ensure all planned/unplanned electrical works are raised and duly closed out upon tasks completion on Pirana or SAP.
- Proficient at solving complex electrical problems.
- Seek opportunities to expand and apply technical knowledge, skill, and experience in doing own job and giving other members of the team opportunity to perform.
- Carry out any other responsibilities as assigned by Line Manager.
